It’s not a vineyard, but it’s close! Get tipsy off of some wine ice cream. Your cheap wine might actually taste good in ice cream form. Box of Franzia: you’ve never looked so good.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Make an ice cream using your favorite wine. How does it hold up? Make another ice cream using cheap wine. Does that one taste better than the good wine? Worse? We will let you be the judge!

SAMPLE RECIPES

1. Red Wine, Cherry and Dark Chocolate

We recommend a merlot or a similar red with deep berry flavors. Cherries bring out the rich fruits in the wine, complemented by bitter chocolate.

INGREDIENTS
  • HIJINX ice cream mix
  • 1 ½ cups half & half
  • ½ cup red wine
  • 2 tablespoons cherry juice
  • ½ cup chopped dark chocolate
INSTRUCTIONS

1. Warm the milk and cherry juice over medium heat or microwave for 30 - 60 seconds (do not boil).

2. Using a blender, combine 1 packet of HIJINX ice cream mix with the milk mixture. Blend for one minute or until thoroughly combined.

3. Let the mixture rest for 30 minutes on your counter.

4. After 30 minutes, gently stir in the wine and dark chocolate pieces.

5. Transfer to a freezer-safe container with an airtight lid.

6. Freeze for 3-6 hours. Enjoy!

2. Pinot Grigio and Caramelized Pear

Pinot Grigio is a light-bodied, zesty wine. Caramelized pear balance the acidity of the wine and brings a smoothness to the ice cream.

  • ½ cup pinot grigio
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar

1. In a saucepan, melt butter over medium-high heat. Add pears, brown sugar and vanilla, stirring to coat the pears. Cook for about 5 minutes or until sauce thickens. Remove from heat.

2. Warm the half & half in a pan over medium heat or microwave for 30 - 60 seconds (do not boil).

3. While still warm, blend with HIJINX ice cream mix. Blend for one minute or until thoroughly combined.

4. Let the mixture rest for 30 minutes on your counter.

5. Stir in the pinot grigio and the cooked pears.

6. Transfer to a freezer-safe container with an airtight lid.

7. Freeze for 3-6 hours. Enjoy!
